IPL 2022: Former Kolkata Knight Riders Batter and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra want Punjab Kings’ to follow the same batting template they have been following so far. They got bundled out for 137 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders even after playing attacking cricket throughout the innings.

It worked against the Royal Challengers Banglore when they chased down 205 runs with an over to spare.  But the same batting approach backfired against KKR. PBKS was 62-3 after the powerplay.

It was a good score at the end of the powerplay, they would have liked to just one or two down at the end of the powerplay but the ultra-aggressive batting approach saw Bhanuska Rajpaksha and Shikhar Dhawan lose their wickets inside the powerplay.

There was no attempt to build partnerships even after the powerplay as Liam Livingstone tried to whack Umesh Yadav for a six and got out in the process. The other batters too did not contribute much. It was Kagiso Rabada’s late order of 25 runs off 16 balls that gave PBKS something to bowl at.

Punjab Kings Must Continue In The Same Fashion: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra through his official Youtube Channel said that Punjab needs to continue with the same approach. “Punjab will keep on hitting – whether it is Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Bhanuka, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, or Raj Angad Bawa. They go after the ball. The flip side of that story is that one day you will score 200 and you might fold up for 125 on another day. “My request for Punjab is – do not let go of this template.”

“Just continue to play in this fashion. You might get out early on an odd occasion but it does not matter because when you hit, you will score 200-odd runs, you have that kind of team. Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal – they will 100% fire. So there is a lot of firepowers there, hopefully, things will start falling in place for them,” Chopra said in his video.

Punjab Kings will be up against Chennai Super Kings in their next fixture and their batters will fancy their chances against an inexperienced bowling lineup of CSK, in the absence of Deepak Chahar who got exposed against Lucknow Super Giants.
