On March 26, the Shreyas Iyer-led KKR team started their IPL 2022 campaign with a huge win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener.

Shreyas, who guided Delhi Capitals to their first final in 2020, was released after the 2021 season, and KKR paid a record Rs. 12.25 crore for his services.
After releasing Eoin Morgan before the players’ auction, KKR needed a new captain and turned to Shreyas to fill that role.

Despite re-signing Australia Test captain Pat Cummins in the players’ auction, KKR chose Shreyas to lead the team over Cummins.
