IPL 2022 mega auctions will revamp the structure of all the franchise teams for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
As the IPL Governing Council has allowed each franchise to retain a maximum of four players, most of the franchises use the provision to keep their premium players for a longer duration.
A total of 27 players were retained in the retention list by the eight existing teams. Ace players like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson have been retained by their respective teams ahead of the mega auction in 2022.
Kolkata Knight Riders retained their senior players Sunil Narine and Andre Russell along with Indian youngsters like Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy.
Just like KKR, five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians also retained their senior-most player Kieron Pollard, who is the only player to have played 200 IPL matches for them.
The IPL 2022 mega auction has the potential to break the records for viewership and also in terms of purchasing the players.
According to media reports, the IPL Governing Council is likely to conduct the IPL 2022 mega auction in the first half of February. The auction will take place in two days in the city of Bengaluru and Hyderabad given the number of players that will go under the hammer.
Eight out of the 27 retained players are from overseas and West Indies has seen the most number of players (3) in that list.
