IPL 2022: CSK Leg-spinner Prashant Solanki Reveals How MS Dhoni's Advice Helped Him Succeed

The 22-year-old leg-spinner Prashant Solanki was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 1.2 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction after a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Solanki, in his first game of the cash-rich league on May 15 against IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, failed to bag a wicket.

However, in his second game against the runners-up Rajasthan Royals (RR) he managed to pick a couple of wickets and he gave away just 20 runs.

While talking about Dhoni in an interview, Prashant Solanki said that Dhoni keeps things pretty simple. He added that the legendary Indian captain had given them instructions to bowl dot balls to create pressure on the opposition.

“Mahi bhai keeps things very simple. Whether you’re bowling leg-spin, googly or top-spin, if you’re not giving runs, you are bowling well. He had given us instructions that we have to bowl dot balls because that’s what creates pressure in T20 cricket,” Solanki told SportsKeeda.

The 22-year-old talked about his second Indian Premier League 2022 game against Rajasthan Royals where he was hit for a six on his first ball of the over and said that the Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni quickly instructed him to bowl shorter length, which eventually helped him succeed.

“In the second game, I came in to bowl a bit late because we didn’t have a big total and he was shuffling the bowlers around. I was hit for a six off my first ball. Then he (Dhoni) gave me an indication that I have to pull my length back and keep it a little shorter. Let him play strokes on the bigger end. Then I was successful.”

“He (Hetmyer) hit me for a boundary and then Mahi bhai indicated me once again to use the bigger side of the ground. I bowled the top spinner on his legs and he miscued it and was out on deep mid-wicket.”
