Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on last year’s finalists, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of the IPL 2022 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26.

Mumbai will be hosting 55 matches of the league stage across three venues – Brabourne Stadium, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, and Wankhede Stadium. Pune will host the remaining 15 matches at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium.

The venue for the playoffs hasn’t been decided yet but it could likely be played in Ahmedabad, as per a report in TOI. The Narendra Modi Stadium would be a great place to host an IPL match with a capacity crowd if possible.

Green channel lines to be created for teams in IPL 2022

The Maharashtra government has also assured the franchises that a special ‘green channel’ will be created, similar to the routes that an ambulance or a VIP person would take. This will allow the teams to reach the stadiums on time.

Currently, there is no confirmation on whether the spectators will be allowed for the games. “Maharashtra government is going to fully support BCCI to organise a successful IPL. The decision regarding allowing crowds will be decided by Chief Minister Hon’ble Uddhav Thackeray,” chairman of MCA governing council, Milind Narvekar told The Indian Express.

The bio-bubble will be created by the state government with access to RT-PCR Tests and any other facilities required. The teams will have to follow the strict protocols in place and avoid a situation like the previous season which was postponed due to an outbreak of covid-19 cases in the camps.
