IPL 2022: DC vs MI- DC Predicted Playing XI Against MI, IPL 2022 Match 02

Delhi Capitals (DC) kick off their IPL 2022 campaign by playing against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai in the first of the two games on March 27. Delhi and Mumbai are placed in group A. So far both teams have played 30 matches with Mumbai winning 16 and Delhi 12 matches.

A total of 74 matches will be played across four venues in Maharashtra namely, Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each while the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai and MCA Stadium in Pune will play hosts to 15 games each. Ahead of DC’s campaign opener against Mumbai Indians, we take a look at their predicted playing XI which might take the field.

Warner is back with DC for his second stint after playing for the franchise between 2009-2013. He will open the batting and look to give his team a good start. He is one of the top run-getters in the league and one of the most feared batsmen as well. He had six 500-plus run seasons between 2014 to 2020.

Shaw was one of the four players retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. He will have a new opening partner in David Warner alongside him. He played with an aggressive approach alongside Shikhar Dhawan, It will be interesting to see how he pairs up with the southpaw.

Mitchell Marsh

Marsh has been on a dream run with the bat since the series against Bangladesh followed by the one against West Indies and the recently concluded T20 World Cup. He will slot in at number three. He will look to play the role that Marcus Stoinis played so consistently for the franchise. Injuries are something that the Australian all-rounder needs to be wary about.

Rishabh Pant (C/WK)

Pant will bat at number four. He can bat at number three as well as the captain of the side with Marsh dropping down to number four. He has played some breathtaking innings in Test cricket in the recent past and will come into the IPL with some form. He will continue to lead the side as well.

Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh has scored over 1500 runs in the IPL playing for several franchises. He is a collector of runs who keeps the scoreboard ticking in the middle-overs. DC can choose between him and Sarfaraz Khan for the number five spot.

Rovman Powell

Rovman Powell’s big-hitting prowess impressed Delhi Capitals as he bagged him in the mega auction. He was in terrific form in the recently concluded series against India. Delhi would ideally hope that Powell continues his big-hitting form. Pant said that he is happy to have the West Indian play for Delhi Capitals.

Axar Patel

the left-arm spinner was chosen over Ravichandran Ashwin by Delhi Capitals during the retention window. In the past few seasons that he played with Delhi, he did well with both bat and ball. That also paved his return to international cricket. Delhi retained him for 9 crores ahead of the mega auction.

Shardul Thakur

Delhi has packed its side with all-rounders in the mega auction. Shardul Thakur after his successful stint with CSK has now been added to the DC squad for 10.75 crores. He has performed well for India both with bat and ball in the recent past. Thakur is often called the man with the golden arm in Indian cricket.

Kuldeep Yadav

The left-arm spinner will pair up with Axar Patel and aim to wreak havoc on the opposition batsmen. He sat on the sidelines for KKR for the majority of the last three seasons. With Ravichandran Ashwin unavailable, Kuldeep can be a perfect replacement for him in the playing XI.

Chetan Sakariya

The left-arm pacer can pair up with Shardul Thakur from the other and bowl in tandem. Sakariya impressed the management with his stint at Rajasthan Royals and earned himself an India cap. The journey has just started for the youngster and he will look to only get better. It will be interesting to see his development through this IPL season.

Anrich Nortje

Nortje was retained for 6.5 crores by the DC management. He has reached India for IPL 2022 but has injury concerns. South Africa team doctor has said that Nortje is not ready just yet to get into the park. In case he misses the first few matches, Delhi Capitals have choices available in the form of Mustafizur Rahman and Lungi Ngidi.
