Mumbai Indians added 20 players to their squad in the IPL 2022 mega auction along with the four that they had retained in the mega auction. The franchise retained  Rohit Sharma for Rs. 16 crores, Jasprit Bumrah for Rs. 12 crores, Suryakumar Yadav for Rs. 8 crores, and Kieron Pollard for Rs. 6 crores during the retention window.

The franchise had to let go of several players like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Trent Boult who formed the core of their victorious IPL campaign. The franchise have won the IPL title five times with their most recent win in IPL 2020.

As far as their overseas players are concerned, there is no big name to talk about. They roped in Jofra Archer for 8 crores but he will not be a part of the IPL 2022 season. Among the players that they have at their disposal, the franchise needs to be really smart with their selection. Tymal Mills will make a comeback to the IPL for the first time since 2017. He played for five matches for RCB that year picking up five wickets in five games. Mumbai Indians added him to their squad for 1.50 crores. He has played 12 T20Is for England. Alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mills can be a good opening partner from the other end given that both are completely different bowlers and will bring different expertise together.
