Rajasthan Royals bought as many as 21 players in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The inaugural IPL champions have given a complete overhaul to their squad ahead of the new season. They retained skipper Sanju Samson (14 crores), Jos Buttler (10 crores) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 crores) at the mega auction.

They made some seriously good work at the auction and added some reputed quality overseas cricketers. Over the years, Rajasthan Royals have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL. They have managed to assemble a good squad in every mega auction but that has not produced the results.

Ahead of a fresh IPL season, the Royals have some thinking to do in terms of choosing the best four overseas options in their playing XI. In this article, we take a look at the four overseas players the franchise might choose in their playing XI.

Buttler, given his reputation as a T20 legend, is a no-brainer in the Rajasthan Royals playing Xi. He will open the batting alongside Jaiswal and will be a backup keeper to Sanju Samson. Buttler joined the franchise in 2018 and since then have been a key figure in their success in the IPL. The overseas specialist should look to repay the faith of the franchise by having a breakout season in 2022.

The franchise invested 8.5 crores on the southpaw to avail his services. The ideal batting position for Shimron Hetmyer would be at five of six close to the death overs. Rajasthan have missed an attacking batsman in the middle-order and Hetmyer gives them that option. He should be seen and groomed as a finisher by the management in the long run.

Rassie Van der Dussen

Dussen joined the Rajasthan Royals franchise as a replacement last season but was not given any games. He was one of the last few purchases in the IPL 2022 mega auction when the franchise had to complete its quota of players.

They managed to get him at just one crore which many considered was fortunate for the franchise. He has become one of the most dependable players for South Africa across formats and in the Royals lineup, he should bat at number four to anchor the innings in the middle overs.

Trent Boult

Boult was one of the big signings for the franchise. They won the bidding war with Mumbai Indians and managed to bag him for 8 crores. He should lead the bowling attack for the Royals. Given his record in the IPL, he is expected to deliver continuously for Rajasthan as he did for Mumbai. The franchise will depend heavily on him to give them breakthroughs inside the powerplay. He can form a deadly combination with Prasidh Krishna who will use his height to good effect to trouble the batsmen.
