Lucknow Supergiants are of the two new teams who have been included into the IPL fold ahead of the 2022 season. The team is owned by Sanjeev Goenka and will be led by KL Rahul. The franchise picked Rahul (17 Crores), Marcus Stoinis (9.2 Crores) and Ravi Bishnoi (4 Crores) as their draft picks.

The management then added 18 more players in the IPL 2022 mega auction to complete a 21-member squad. Quinton de Kock, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, and Jason Holder were some of the popular players that Lucknow Super Giants bought in their squad.

They have a good core of Indian players. Team mentor Gautam Gambhir did a good job of identifying reputed Indian players and picked them up in the big auction. Rahul will lead the side and open the batting for Lucknow Super Giants. He was in fabulous form for Punjab Kings in the four years that he played with the franchise. He will look to continue in the same vein of form for his new franchise. Team owner Sanjeev Goenka spoke about KL Rahul’s qualities as a leader and as a batsman. He will open the batting alongside Quinton De Kock who will also keep for the side.

Manish Pandey

Pandey also has a massive experience of playing in the IPL. He played for three franchises and batted in the top-order for the batter part of his career. He is an accumulator of runs and can anchor the innings for the big-hitters to finish the game on a high for the side. He was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the mega auction and roped in by Lucknow for 4.60 crores.

Hooda can slot in at number five or six and can play the role of a finisher for Lucknow. He recently made his debut in the white-ball formats for India. He is a good fielder and a handy option with the bat as and when required. With the T20 World Cup coming up, Hooda will look to use most of the given opportunities to be picked in India’s T20 World Cup squad later this year in Australia.

The franchise would like to use one left-hander in the middle and Krunal provides them with that option. He was one of the matchwinners for Mumbai Indians and certainly comes with a reputation. With Krishnappa Gowtham also in the team, it will be interesting to see if the management prefers him over the Karnataka player. Krunal was added by Lucknow for a whopping 8.25 crores.

The promising Avesh Khan was picked up by Lucknow Supergiants for 10 crores which was 20 times more than his base price of 20 lakhs. He was in the uncapped category but then made his T20I debut in the series against Sri Lanka. Avesh had a breakthrough season with the Delhi Capitals in 2021 where he picked 24 wickets and made the world take notice of him. He should play every game as the lead Indian pacer in the XI.

Ravi Bishnoi

Bishnoi will play as the lead spinner for Lucknow. The franchise added him to the squad for 4 crores. He played two seasons with Punjab Kings picking up. He picked up 24 wickets in 23 matches so far in the IPL. His IPL success helped him earn his maiden T20I cap in the series against West Indies.

Krishnappa Gowtham

Gowtham can be the right-handed off-spinning option for Lucknow Supergiants. He is a good fielder and can hit big shots as well in the final overs. Overall, he is a compact cricketer and can play the given role for the franchise. He can be the seventh and final Indian player in the playing XI.
