Former South African captain Graeme Smith feels that Rajasthan Royals (RR) shouldn’t be satisfied with just qualifying for the playoffs but instead go all-out for a spot in the top two.
When RR go up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, they will have a chance to overtake Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and move into the second spot. This will give them two chances in the playoffs.
“Jos Buttler should look to get another big knock under the belt. We’ve all talked about the importance of finishing in the top two and giving yourself an extra chance of playing in the knockouts. So that’ll be key for Rajasthan as well.”
“They’ve played good cricket, they’ve found the form. Hetmyer is back after the birth of his first child so that’s a positive. They would just be hoping that they click in all the departments against CSK. The top two will need to give them a good start,” Smith said on Star Sports.
“It is a golden chance for Rajasthan Royals” – Graeme Smith
The current RR team is one of their most balanced squads and they have a great opportunity to claim their second IPL trophy, 14 years after winning the maiden edition of the cash-rich league.
“It is a golden chance for Rajasthan Royals to finish in the top two and give them an extra shot at fighting for the trophy. Beating Chennai Super Kings is never easy for any team but Royals will be disappointed if they fail to win as they’ll lose the opportunity,” Smith noted.
The two teams will face off against each other and just a win will take RR to the second spot. As for Chennai, it will be about finishing on a high after a poor performance in the season.
