The spin-bowling all-rounder scored 28 off 23 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), before retiring out and making the way for Riyan Parag to join Shimron Hetmyer in the middle.
Meanwhile, Ashwin has said that ‘retiring out’ is part of the future of the T20 cricket and it is here to stay.
“It’s important to understand how it (a decision) is going to give us an edge in important moments. I think (retiring out) is part of the future of the game in T20 cricket, and I believe it’s there to stay,” said Ashwin.
People are going to perceive it as risky – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin further said that ‘retiring out’ is considered a risky move because there are some negative consequences of that decision. However, he opined that the decision of retiring out will give a competitive advantage to a team if it’s executed properly.
“People are going to perceive it as risky because once you retire a batter out and things don’t go your way you might have to explain that. But if it’s executed well, then it can give you a competitive advantage,” he said.
Talking about the performance of off-spinner in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Ashwin has had a brilliant all-round run in the cash-rich league as he has scored 183 for Rajasthan Royals in 14 games at a strike rate of 146.40. With the ball, he has bagged 11 wickets for Sanju Samson and Co.

Meanwhile, he played a terrific 40 runs knock in 23 balls against Chennai Super Kings to help RR win and secure a top-2 finish in the IPL 2022.
