Ishan Kishan has had a good start to IPL 2022 scoring 81 in Mumbai Indians’ very first match against Delhi Capitals. Though Mumbai lost the game, Kishan batted with an aggressive approach and showcased his talent. Kishan is currently topping the Orange Cap list with 135 runs from two games.

Apart from being a key batter for Mumbai, Ishan Kishan is also shouldering the wicketkeeping duties for the franchise in this edition of the IPL. The southpaw has time and again spoken about the impact of MS Dhoni in his career.

Recently in a conversation with Gaurav Kapoor on Breakfast With Champions, Kishan recollected an incident when the former CSK skipper plotted his dismissal in a match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

“In one of the IPL games, it really stressed me out the most. I was playing well and hitting the bowlers. But then Dhoni bhai walked up to the bowler and said something. I couldn’t hear what but he said something to Imran (Tahir) bhai.

“And in my mind, I’m wondering what Dhoni bhai has told him. I don’t know what happened but there was a half-volley ball, which I drove but got out caught at the short-third man. To date, I haven’t figured out how a batter trying to drive a spinner gets caught at the third man,” Kishan said.

Kishan further spoke about the traits that he has learnt from Dhoni. He said how Dhoni taught him to anticipate an edge and move his hands towards the direction of the ball.

“So from what we’ve observed about keeping, Our hands are usually straight but when there is an edge, it moves to the right. But he taught me that the hand movement should be only this much.

“That should be all the movement. Not just the wrist. It should go like this (semi-pendulum motion). Once this becomes a habit, you’ll be able to catch even the thick edges,” added Ishan.

Mumbai Indians have lost their first two games and take on KKR next at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on April 6.
