IPL 2022: ‘It Was A Big Deal For Me To Get Picked By Chennai’: Shivam Dube Expresses Delight After Getting Picked By CSK

Defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will have a task in their hands as they try mounting a title challenge in the upcoming edition. The MS Dhoni-led side made a swift business in the IPL auctions last month as they bought a string of players in their team and one player who has caught the eye of the captain is Shivam Dube.

The Mumbai-based player was bought in for a hefty price tag of 4 crore rupees and is seen as a valuable addition to the squad. Ahead of the new season, he spoke on how CSK managed to get his signature as a string of teams bid for him.

The 28-year-old was involved in a fierce bidding war between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab King (PBKS) and his former franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR). But it was the four-time champions CSK who manages to get this signature.

Dube, was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad before he switched to RR for the 2021 season. CSK paid a big sum for the player who has also been capped by the Indian national team.

“It was a big deal for me to get picked by Chennai. I was feeling great. I can’t express my excitement in words but I was pleasantly surprised by having been picked by CSK. And yes, could not express my feelings and all but I’m really happy to be a part of CSK,” the 28-year-old spoke on being picked by CSK in the IPL auctions.

“Although it is a different franchise for me, attitude will remain the same. I have to do my best for the team’s cause, which has always been my mission as a player and will always be that way going forward as well. I’m more confident now,” the Mumbai-born player added.

2022 has been somewhat lucky for the left-handed batter who wasn’t just picked by CSK but also shared a delight in the same week of the auctions as he was blessed with a baby boy. He will now be hoping for yet another delightful moment as he would like to add an IPL title to his name. He will be part of the CSK squad which contains the likes of Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali.

CSK will start season 15 of the IPL on Saturday (March 26) against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Dube, on the flip side, will be urged to help the team earn yet another IPL crown as they try to go level with Mumbai Indians for most IPL title wins.
