The IPL 2022 is scheduled to begin with Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders taking on each other on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The final is scheduled to be played on May 29. Brabourne Stadium, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium also scheduled to host games this season.

The three stadiums in Mumbai will host 55 matches in total while Pune’s MCA stadium will host 15 matches. In an interesting development, the Maharashtra government has assured to the BCCI that separate lanes will be allotted for the teams to reach the venue to avoid the traffic issues in Mumbai. The chairman of MCA’s governing council, Milind Narvekar held a meeting with the BCCI with Maharashtra’s tourism and environment minister, Aaditya Thackeray also present.

“Maharashtra government is going to fully support BCCI to organise a successful IPL. The decision regarding allowing crowds will be decided by Chief Minister Hon’ble Uddhav Thackeray,” Narvekar told The Indian Express.

The state government has also assured the BCCI of supporting and providing the necessary facilities to conduct the RT-PCR tests and creating a bio-bubble for the tournament. The board decided to host the tournament in Maharashtra to avoid the bio-bubble protocol breach which happened last year due to constant travel across venues.

The BCCI on Friday, (February 25) announced the two different groups for IPL 2022. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been placed in two different groups. MI, KKR, RR, DC and LSG are part of group A. Group B includes teams like CSK, RCB, SRH, PBKS and GT.
