Kohli was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for 17 crores in the 2018 mega auction. This made him the costliest player ever in the IPL. Kohli stepped down as RCB captain following IPL 2021. The franchise would need a potential captaincy candidate in the next mega auction with Kohli having said that he will never be the captain of the franchise again.
