IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri Feels Deepak Chahar Would Have Picked A Lot Of Wickets

Deepak Chahar’s injury has harmed Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) hopes in the present Indian Premier League, according to former India head coach Ravi Shastri.
If the right-arm fast bowler had been available, Shastri believed he could have had a huge impact on the event.
Ravi Shastri on ESPNcricinfo said that Chahar has a habit of picking up early wickets with the new ball. In IPL 2022, he believes the seamer would have been a success because the surfaces were favourable to swing bowling.

CSK Missed Deepak Chahar: Ravi Shastri
Due to a back ailment, Chahar was ruled out of this year’s lucrative league. In his absence, the defending champions struggled and ended ninth in the standings with only four victories.
“The biggest problem for CSK was Deepak Chahar’s unavailability. He is the type of pacer who can give you one or two wickets upfront.
“They definitely missed that. He would have taken a lot of wickets this season, considering the pitches. There was some swing on offer with the new ball and the surfaces were perfect for his game,” Shastri said.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni, according to the cricketer-turned-commentator, will continue to back the team’s youngsters like Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh, and Maheesh Theekshana next season as well.
However, Shastri believes that before next year’s IPL, the club could consider signing a middle-order batsman as well as a great fast bowler to achieve the correct balance.

“If MS Dhoni is the captain for the next season, he will surely persist with youngsters like Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh and Maheesh Theekshana. These guys will improve. However, they will have to try and rope in a middle-order batter and a fast bowler when the transfer window opens,” Shastri added.
MS Dhoni has stated that he will return to captain CSK in the upcoming edition of the competition, much to the pleasure of CSK fans. He professed his wish to play in front of the Chennai crowd before calling it quits after the toss during his team’s final league match.
