Jasprit Bumrah was one of the four players retained by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was paid 12 crores as the franchise persisted with him for another spell in the IPL. The franchise added 21 players in the mega auction to add to the four that they had retained to complete a 25-member squad. They are placed in group A alongside, KKR, DC, RR and LSG.

Jasprit Bumrah has been a part of the franchise since 2013. He started playing under Ricky Ponting but flourished as a matchwinner for Mumbai under Rohit Sharma. Bumrah is within the top 10 wicket-takers in the tournament with 130 wickets from 106 games.

Talking to Ravichandran Ashwin, he opened up about his association with Rohit Sharma. Rohit has been very vocal about how crucial Bumrah has been to Mumbai’s success in the IPL and for India at the international level.

“It’s been very good (Relationship) since the early days. When I came into the side, Ricky Ponting was the captain but I was not playing regularly. But under Rohit, I did. He had a lot of confidence in me, he instilled confidence,” Bumrah said.

“He saw me bowling in the nets and the skills that I have. He always backed me, told me to believe in myself. Whenever in the initial stages as well, he had a lot of trust in me. He would give me the important overs. It’s been the same relationship.”

Jasprit Bumrah further said that his relationship with Rohit has now reached to a point of mutual understanding. His performance will be key if Mumbai Indians are looking to win their sixth IPL title.

“Now we have reached a stage he doesn’t even tell me things. He will tell ‘you set the field on your own, if you have any changes, tell me, I will do that’. He has had that trust because I have made things work.

“Somedays, things might not go well, but he always has kept the atmosphere in our team very simple and calm” he concluded saying.
