IPL 2022: The Meme Was Already There In My Head - Yuzvendra Chahal Sheds Light On His Celebration After Hat-Trick Against KKR

Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal opened up on the reasoning behind his viral celebration following a stunning match-winning hattrick and five-wicket haul against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 18.

KKR was well on its way to a comfortable win while chasing 219 with skipper, Shreyas Iyer, batting on 85 at the time. Chahal had one over left and he ended up turning the match on its head in that final over.

He dismissed Iyer, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins off successive deliveries and went on to recreate a meme of him laying on the ground during a 2019 World Cup match in England.

“I was not playing a game during the 2019 World Cup. So, I was lying on the ground and a picture of the same went viral on social media. Later, I got to know people are making memes out of it, so it was pretty special for me as well.”

“Hence, I thought if I pick a five-wicket haul, I will celebrate with that pose. So it was already there in my head, and I celebrated the success with that pose,” Chahal said during a conversation at the Sharechat Audio Chatrooms alongside teammates Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Sen.

After joining RR, Chahal has gone on a tear in the IPL 2022 season. He is the current purple cap holder with 22 wickets in 11 matches and is RR skipper, Sanju Samson’s go-to bowler when in need of wickets.

“I am feeling extremely happy about the first season and I was pretty excited since the start. When I reached the camp and met everyone I felt really happy. Currently, I am just enjoying each and every game and trying to work hard and give my best to the team in order to contribute to the win,” he further mentioned.
