IPL 2022: The Wankhede Wicket Wasn't The Greatest To Get Going From The Start: Bhanuka Rajapaksa

IPL 2022: Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batter who made a return to the Punjab Kings’ side against Chennai Super Kings on Monday and played a vital knock against them said after the game that the wicket wasn’t the best wicket in terms of striking the ball from the get-go.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa in his return to the side made a valuable 42 runs and was associated with a 110 run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan after the fall of an early wicket in the form of their captain, Mayank Agarwal.
We Are An Attacking Side, But We Had To Change A Bit: Bhanuka Rajapaksa
PBKS have shown attacking intent from ball one in all the games that they have played. This game plan is straight from the books of the English white ball men’s cricket team. PBKS have got a 50-50 result so far in the league as they won 4 and lost 4 games. It’s this approach which has won them games but has also been a reason for their losses.
Many cricket pundits questioned their approach and suggested that they should look to bat according to the situation.
The shift in approach was visible when Mayank got out early against CSK as both Shikhar Dhawan and Rajapaksa looked to consolidate rather than trying to hit every ball out of the ground. The approach was also due to the conditions as Rajapaksa himself explained after the game.
“It wasn’t the best wicket to bat on when we started, there was a shorter side, so we knew what we had to do, we had a plan and Shikhar played a crucial knock, he was talking to me throughout our partnership, we wanted to have a boundary ball each over and then rotate the strike, everything happened as we planned. The Punjab way is to attack, we plan to go hard at the bowlers, but we had to change our ways today”, said Rajapaksa.
Punjab Kings would now hope that they can find the right template for all the conditions as they try and make their way through in the top 4.
