Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first and they made no changes to the playing XI. Lucknow Super Giants, however, were forced to make a change as young Madhya Pradesh pacer Avesh Khan had a niggle and Mohsin Khan replaced him in the team.

Bowling all-rounder Daniel Sams opened the attack for Mumbai Indians against Lucknow Super Giants openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock and he bowled 4 dot balls while conceding just 2 runs. Hrithik Shokeen delivered the second over and he bowled 5 dot balls while conceding 4 runs. The third over was a big one for Lucknow Super Giants as the openers smashed Sams for 14 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah got the first breakthrough for MI in the 4th over by dismissing Quinton de Kock for 10 on the last ball of the over. Riley Meredith gave away 2 runs in the 5th over and Jaydev Unadkat gave away 3 runs in the 6th over and at the end of the powerplay, Lucknow Super Giants were at 32/1.

Rahul and Manish Pandey kept batting cautiously for the next few overs but they attacked Riley Meredith in the 10th over and smashed 17 runs, which helped LSG reach 72/1 at the end of the 10th over.

In the end, Rahul completed his century at the Wankhede Stadium in the 61st ball in style by smashing a maximum to express pacer Riley Meredith to become 1st ever player to score 3 100s against an opponent in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Chasing the target, Ishan Kishan started off extremely slow but skipper Rohit Sharma played an aggressive knock and helped Mumbai Indians score 43 runs in the powerplay overs.

Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Ishan Kishan on the first ball of the 8th over and Kishan played an awful knock of 8 runs off 20 balls. Also, left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan dismissed Dewald Brevis for 3 in the 9th over.

In the end, Tilak Varma fought hard and played a good 38 runs knock off 27 balls but the pressure took over him and he lost his wicket in the 18th over, which was bowled by Jason Holder.
