Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The Faf du Plessis and co. made no changes in the team and they fielded the same XI. However, Kolkata Knight Riders made one change by adding veteran Kiwi pacer Tim Southee to the playing XI in place of youngster Shivam Mavi to add extra experience to the bowling unit.

Pacer David Willey opened the attack for Royal Challengers Bangalore and the duo of Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 4 runs in the over.

Royal Challengers Bangalore got their first breakthrough in the 4th over as pacer Akash Deep was able to dismiss opener Venkatesh Iyer on his very first ball and the Kolkata Knight Riders opener scored just 10 runs off 14 balls.

Ajinkya Rahane and captain Shreyas Iyer were batting cautiously before the former fell for 9 in the 6th over.

Then came a terrible time for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Nitish Rana was dismissed for 10 by Akash Deep in the 6th over, skipper Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 13 by Wanindu Hasaranga in the 7th over, Sunil Narine was dismissed for 12 by Wanindu Hasaranga in the 9th over and on the last ball of the over Hasaranga castled Sheldon Jackson for a golden duck.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a strong batting depth as even after losing 6 wickets they had Sam Billings and Andre Russell out in the middle and both the batters possess the capability to change the game single-handedly. However, pacer Harshal Patel took care of the two as he dismissed Sam Billings for 14 in his first over and Andre Russell for 25 in his second over. Notably, both the overs bowled by the medium-pacer were maiden.

In the end, Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy added good 27 runs off 26 balls, which was the best partnership for KKR in the match and the Knights finished off at 128/10.

In the end, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost some back-to-back wickets but Dinesh Karthik stood strong on one end and Harshal Patel provided good support to the wicketkeeper-batsman and together they led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) towards the victory.
