IPL 2022: Venkatesh Iyer Is Very Intelligent With His Batting - Aaron Finch

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Aaron Finch said Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is very intelligent with his batting. Venkatesh was the revelation of IPL 2021, where he scored 370 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 128.47 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second phase of IPL 2021.
The lanky player’s batting prowess cruised KKR to the IPL 2021 final and also paved the way for selection in the senior Indian side in the white-ball formats.

Finch, who replaced England batter Alex Hales in the KKR squad this year, said the Madhya Pradesh player is a fantastic player who gets the advantage of his height to play some stellar shots.
The Australian limited-overs skipper also noted Venkatesh’s versatility to bat in any position in the team’s batting order.
“I think he’s a fantastic player. Because he’s so tall, he’s got so many options. He’s got a great reach so teams struggle to tie him up because he’s got so many options around the ground and his ability to play both sides of the wicket, he’s very intelligent with his batting,” Finch told KKR.
“He can bat the long innings and get the team home. So for a young guy, that’s such a good trait to have.
“And even with the innings that Pat played in Pune, he was not out at the end and while he didn’t get all that many runs in a run-chase like that, his ability to just maintain the momentum of the team and not let the game drift too far away shows he’s got a great head on his shoulders,” he added.
IPL 2022: Venkatesh Iyer scored 109 runs in seven matches
Barring his unbeaten 50 against Mumbai Indians, Venkatesh hasn’t done enough to justify his retention by KKR in IPL 2022. The southpaw has accumulated 109 runs in seven innings at an average of 18.17.
KKR have lost four out of seven matches in the IPL 2022 and they are currently placed seventh in the points table. The Shreyas Iyer & co will play their next match against table leaders Gujarat Titans on Saturday (April 23).
