IPL 2022: Virender Sehwag Credits Faf du Plessis, Sanjay Bangar For RCB's Success In 15th Edition Of The IPL

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has credited Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis and head coach Sanjay Bangar for the success of the franchise in the IPL 2022.

Royal Challengers Bangalore finished at the 4th spot in the Indian Premier League 2022 points table with 8 wins from 14 outings and they will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 25 in the Eliminator of the IPL 2022.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag pinpointed that the former RCB captain Kohli used to drop players after a poor performance in 2-3 games and with the arrival of Bangar and Du Plessis things have changed. He said:

“The arrival of Sanjay Bangar as head coach and a new captain has changed RCB’s thinking. We have seen how Virat Kohli used to think as he used to drop a player after no performance in 2-3 games. But Bangar and Du Plessis have kept the team almost consistent throughout. Except Patidar for Anuj Rawat, I don’t think they made any changes due to poor performance.”

Former India opener further said that the major reason behind Royal Challengers Bangalore’s success in the Indian Premier League 2022 is the contribution of several players unlike the previous editions of the IPL where RCB were over-dependent on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. He elaborated:

“Opposition’s chances of winning increased by 90 percent because until last year they knew they had to stop just two players (Kohli and De Villiers). But this time there are almost four players and I am not even considering the bowling. The likes of Dinesh Karthik, Maxwell and others have won a game for each of them and this looks to be RCB’s year.”
