Dale Steyn, one of the most successful seamers of his generation, is pleased to see India’s pace bowling improving gradually. The former South African paceman, who is currently the fast bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, has been working closely with Umran, one of India’s most talked-about pacers.

Steyn’s thoughts considering India has such a large population, you can be sure that someone in every billion will bowl at 145 or 150 kmph.

In Indian cricket, the skill of quick bowling has transformed. Indian cricket has seen the development of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami from a time when spinners dominated. Then there are the youngsters, like Umran Malik, who have made it a habit to regularly exceed 150 kmph

Umran Malik was one such bowler in the IPL last season, wow fans and veteran cricketers alike with his remarkable speeds. The 22-year-old was also one of India’s net bowlers in the T20 World Cup and was one of three Sunrisers Hyderabad players retained ahead of the 2022 edition.

Malik has continued to break the speed limitations in SRH’s games this season, and veteran South Africa pacer Dale Steyn, who is a member of the Sunrisers team management (bowling coach), anticipates big things from the J&K pacer.

Steyn said Malik had the potential “to feature substantially” in the future in a recent question-and-answer session on his official Twitter profile.

‘I believe the IPL has transformed the way Indian cricket is performed’: Dale Steyn

I believe that the IPL has matured over time; it has been around for at least 10 years (14 years). The IPL also brings excellent talent. So you’ve got your Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar was here in the early days, Mitchell Starc, Kagiso Rabada, you can go through the ranks of fast bowlers.

When you have the IPL  remember, it’s the Indian Premier League you know the Indians playing here have more of a connection to something more than just watching Indian spin bowlers like Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, who were terrific in the past.

“They pushed me to improve my speed, skill, and battle abilities. Many young Indians have begun to emulate the features of abroad pace bowlers in the last ten years or so. India possessed a few fast bowlers, although they were dispersed throughout the team” Dale Steyn said.

“Because India has such a large population, you can be sure that someone out of every billion will bowl at 145 or 150 kmph. And we were always going to find those men, and by “we,” I mean the cricketing globe. They may now play with Morne Morkel, Jofra Archer, and Kagiso Rabada since they have heroes.”

“Rather than aspiring to be the next Anil Kumble or Harbhajan Singh, I believe (the youth) are now a lot closer to the men who are their heroes (fast bowling). I believe the IPL has altered the way Indian cricket is conducted.”

Dale Steyn, one of the best fast bowlers of all time, is making his IPL coaching debut this year.
