Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) recruit Rahul Tripathi will be keen on replicating his performances for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous years when the IPL 2022 season gets underway in Mumbai on March 26.

He produced heroic performances on a few occasions, none bigger than the Qualifier 2 in Sharjah in IPL 2021. Facing off against Ravichandran Ashwin when six runs were required off 2 deliveries, Tripathi stayed calm and smashed a six over long-off.

The pressure situation was quite easy for him to deal with as he had learned a lot from none other than the former cricketer, MS Dhoni. The 40-year-old CSK skipper is a master of last-over finishes and that’s where Tripathi drew inspiration from.

Hitting the six in that situation was something special for me. I didn’t rush and I was confident and dealt with those butterflies in the stomach and the adrenaline rush. Keeping calm in such situations is an art I learned from Mahi Bhai,” Tripathi said in an exclusive interview Times of India.

Tripathi hasn’t made his international debut just yet but he wants to use the platform that the IPL can give and make headways at the national level. He has learned many things from Dhoni while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) – now defunct – and wants to utilize them to the fullest.

I want to be a good finisher for my team just like Mahi Bhai. Playing under him was a dream come true for me. I was privileged that I was picked for RPS and got to play under him in my maiden IPL season. Sharing the dressing room, learning from his experience, taking tips from him, chatting with him, and observing him was a big big thing for me,” he added.
