Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif criticized Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for not bowling England all-rounder Moeen Ali against Evin Lewis in the penultimate over against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG chased a huge score of 211, the sixth-highest run chase in IPL, to register their first win in the IPL 2022.

Quinton de Kock scored 61 off 45 balls including nine boundaries at a strike rate of 135.56. The South African player stitched 99 runs with skipper KL Rahul (40) for the opening wicket. The duo paved the way for the team’s massive chase against the four-time IPL champions.

West Indies batter Evin Lewis pummelled six fours and three sixes in the course of his 23-ball 55, the fastest half-century in the IPL 2022 so far. Youngster Ayush Badoni scored a quick-fire 19 off nine balls to take his side past the finishing line.

LSG needed 34 runs in the last two overs and Dwayne Bravo, Tushar Deshpande, and Dwaine Pretorious had completed their full quota of overs. Jadeja turned up to Dube to bowl the 19th over which didn’t result in CSK’s favor as the Mumbai player leaked 25 runs against Lewis and Badoni.

Kaif believes CSK should have trusted Moeen to bowl the penultimate over given the West Indies player’s struggle against spin bowlers. The former Indian player said that new captain Jadeja will take time to make tough decisions.

“Evin Lewis doesn’t play spin well. You had three overs of Moeen Ali left but you still didn’t use him. Mumbai had left Lewis because he doesn’t play spin that well. He will always smash the faster bowlers for a six. Not giving Moeen Ali the ball was a mistake and this wasn’t Jadeja’s decision, he is still learning. Even now, the decisions are taken by MS Dhoni,” Kaif told Sportskeeda ahead of CSK’s match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday.

CSK lost three matches in a row in IPL 2022 after they failed to chase 180 against PBKS at the Brabourne Stadium and lost by 54 runs.
