As many as five people were busted during the Eliminator between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The five accused – Sunil Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Amar Kumar, Obada Khalil, and Aniket Kumar, who are residents of Bihar, were involved in a betting racket operating at the stadium.

They were caught by the anti-rowdy squad (ARS) under the detective department (DD) of Kolkata Police late on Wednesday evening. The squad received a tip from their sources following which they arrived at the F-I block in the audience gallery.

As per the reports, three youngsters were using their mobile phones during the game which caught the attention of the cops. They proceeded to question and arrest them. Following their confessions, two more people were caught at a private guest house in the New Market area in central Kolkata.

Portable routers, cash, and mobile phones were among the things that were seized from the operation. Sources in the ARS were quoted as saying that the routers were used to ensure connectivity within the stadium. Currently, the arrested are being interrogated by the Kolkata police.

Meanwhile, RCB batted first in the Eliminator and were off to a poor start. Fortunately for them, Rajat Patidar stepped up and smashed a stunning 54-ball 112* studded with 12 fours and 7 sixes.

Dinesh Karthik played another entertaining cameo which ensured RCB end up with a healthy total of 207 on the board. In response, LSG lost Quinton de Kock early and although they had wickets in hand, they let the run rate get out of hand.

Eventually, in a bid to up the ante, LSG batters were dismissed one after another before KL Rahul‘s wicket signaled the end of the road for the new team in the IPL 2022 season. RCB will now face off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
