Royal Challengers Bangalore pace bowler Mohammed Siraj said senior batter Virat Kohli is a team-man and will thrive for the results.

Kohli played a belligerent 54-ball 73 to guide his side in an eight-wicket thumping win over table-toppers Gujarat Titans in their final league stage game.

Kohli came against all the odds and stepped up for his team when it mattered the most. He lifted, drove the incredible cover drives, whipped, played the straight drive, and slapped in the flurry of his spectacular strokes that kept RCB alive in the tournament.

He smashed Rashid Khan for a six to bring up his 44th IPL fifty and second of this season. Kohli cheered up the crowd and gave a big statement that he was not done yet.

Kohli and RCB captain Faf du Plessis stitched a 115-run stand to set the tone for the chase of 169. The duo was separated after the latter’s dismissal to Rashid in the 15th over.

After surviving a close dismissal off Rashid’s bowling on the first ball, Maxwell went ballistic, scoring 40 runs in 18 deliveries with five boundaries and two sixes. RCB completed the chase with eight balls to spare and moved up to fourth place in the table with 16 points.

Kohli’s knock reaped rewards as RCB qualified for the IPL 2022 playoffs after Delhi Capitals’ defeat to Mumbai Indians in their final match of the group stage.

Ahead of the Gujarat Titans match, Kohli was struggling with the bat with 236 runs in 13 innings at 19.67 and a strike rate of 113.46.

Virat Kohli always puts the team first and tries to score as many runs: Mohammed Siraj

Siraj said Kohli is never out of form and will work harder to present a strong case of his charm.

“A batsman like Virat bhaiya is never out of form. He always puts the team first and tries to score as many runs and win the match for the team. He (Virat) always tells all the youngsters – put the country first, play for your team and country,” Siraj told TimesofIndia.com.

“He (Virat) always backed me. I didn’t perform well for RCB initially and despite that he retained me in the team,” Siraj added.

RCB will play KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator game on May 24 (Wednesday) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
