Lucknow Supergiants are roaring and have managed to take the top spot on the points table. They will next face the other newbie of this season, i.e., the Gujarat Titans who will be heading into this fixture on the back of two successive defeats.

Gujarat Titans made a mess of their run chase against Mumbai Indians the other night. Gujarat Titans now need to regroup and focus on their next game which is against the new table-toppers Lucknow Supergiants.

KL Rahul & Co. don’t have to ponder much ahead of their clash against Gujarat Titans. Lucknow has the best net run rate this season and they are just one win away from almost finalizing a top-two finish in the league stage.

Avesh Khan is back in full rhythm, Mohsin Khan has been bowling with his tails up and the same goes for the batters who have been performing really well even if their skipper KL Rahul fails at times. The team looks in a great space and there’s no need for them to tinker with the eleven.

Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans squared off in Match 4 of the ongoing IPL 2022 and it was the Gujarat Titans who toppled Lucknow Supergiants quite comprehensively by 5 wickets.

Mohammad Shami starred with the ball and scalped three wickets before the Titans batters made valuable contributions at the death and held their nerves in a tricky run-chase. Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 40 and Hardik Pandya’s 33 ensured that Deepak Hooda’s 55 and Ayush Badoni’s 54 went in vain.

KL Rahul has been Mr. Consistent of IPL in the last couple of seasons, scoring over 500 runs in each of the last four editions. LSG would want their skipper back in the 2018 form though, the season where he had scored 659 runs at 54.91 at a strike rate of 158.41.

The right-handed batsman was picked as a draft player by the team. Last season, he was part of Punjab Kings. He scored 626 runs in 13 IPL 2021 games. He has amassed 451 runs in 11 IPL 2022 games averaging 50.11 including successive tons against Mumbai. He was run out without scoring against KKR in the last game.

Roped in for INR 6.75 crore, the South African international keeper, Quinton de Kock has been one of the most prolific overseas batting options in recent times in IPL. Last season, the left-handed batsman was part of Mumbai Indians. He scored 297 runs in 11 games in IPL 2021 at an average of 29.70.

In IPL 2022, he is Lucknow Supergiants’ second-highest run-scorer after KL Rahul with 344 runs averaging 31.27 with 3 fifties in 11 games.

Marcus Stoinis had scored an unbeaten 38 in the first IPL 2022 match he played against Rajasthan, albeit in a losing cause as RR won by 3 runs after their pacer Kuldeep Sen successfully defended 15 runs in the last over. He had scored 118 runs in 7 innings in IPL 2022 averaging 23.6 besides taking a solitary scalp averaging 41 with a best of 1/13.

The Australian all-rounder made his way to Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2020 after he was bought for Rs 4.8 crores during the auction and went on to play two seasons for the franchise. He will now be donning the Lucknow Supergiants colors after the franchise picked him ahead of the TATA IPL 2022 auction.

Lucknow Supergiants’ all-rounder Ayush Badoni, 22, became the first player to notch up a 50-plus score on IPL debut while batting at the No.6 spot or below in the match against Gujarat Titans, albeit in a losing cause. Ayush Badoni set alight the stage with his aggressive batting, hitting three sixes and four fours, and scoring 54 off 41 balls. He teamed up with Deepak Hooda, who scored 55 off 44 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

Lucknow Supergiants will want Krunal Pandya to play the same role he used to play for Mumbai Indians all these years. Krunal Pandya, the spinner who can contribute with the bat as well was picked for Rs. 8.25 crores by Lucknow Supergiants during the IPL 2022 auction.

He was part of Mumbai Indians in the last season. He had scored 143 runs in 12 games and picked 5 wickets. He has taken 9 scalps averaging 20.66 in 11 matches in IPL 2022 besides scoring 153 runs averaging 25.5. He is Lucknow’s 4th highest run-getter and 4th highest wicket-taker so far.

Jason Holder

Jason Holder, the former West Indies skipper who can bowl at any stage of the game and use the long handle to change the course of the match, is a solid addition to the Lucknow Supergiants squad. Jason Holder has picked 12 scalps in 9 IPL 2022 games averaging 24.41 and is Lucknow’s 2nd highest wicket-taker this season so far. But he’s a bit too expensive as his economy rate of 9.3 depicts. He has also scored 56 runs averaging 14 with the bat.

Dushmantha Chameera, the Sri Lankan pacer can generate raw pace and trouble the batters with a fine yorker, and Lucknow Supergiants, who have brought him on board for INR 2 Crore, will want him to set the stage on fire. He has picked up 9 scalps so far in as many IPL 2022 games averaging 29.

He picked 9 scalps in 11 games in IPL 2022 averaging 38.44 at an economy rate of 8.23.

Avesh Khan is one of the key players in the Lucknow setup. The young pacer was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for 10 crores at auction, up from a base price of 20 lakh, becoming the most expensive uncapped player at the event.

The Madhya Pradesh player was the second in the list of top wicket-takers last season, picking 24 wickets in 16 games at 18.75. He picked 14 scalps in 9 games averaging 19 but has been a tad too expensive (8.14). Avesh Khan is the leading Lucknow Supergiants wicket-taker this season. He picked 3/19 against KKR in the previous match and was awarded MOM on a comeback after injury.

Mohsin Khan
