MI vs DC: Explained - Who Will Qualify For Playoffs If MI vs DC Match Gets Washed Out Due To Rain

Royal Challengers Bangalore are not playing today but the game between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are the most important game for them as far as qualifying for the IPL 2022 playoffs is concerned.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have won 8 games and have 16 points but they have a negative net run rate. So DC who are playing today win their last game against Mumbai they will go through to the playoffs.

DC have a far better net run rate and if they win they will also get to 16 points and qualify.

There Might Be A Twist Though

The beauty of the IPL in the last 3-4 years has been that it’s not almost until the last 2-3 games that all 4 teams for the playoffs are confirmed. This time too it is no different. This is the penultimate league game of the season and there are still a couple of teams vying for the final playoff spot. Though RCB is dependent on the result of this game for them to qualify DC’s faith in their own hands.

But DC’s faith is in their hands only if the match is played. If it rains and the match gets washed out, RCB will qualify. In that scenario, RCB will qualify with 16 points while DC and MI will share a point each. That would mean that DC will end the league phase with just 15 points.

It would in the end be a heartbreaking end for DC if the match does gets washed out as they won’t even get the opportunity to play the game and have a shot at the playoff spot. DC would therefore hope that there is no rain and a game can be played even if it is for 5 overs.
