Former Indian player Ravi Shastri allayed the concerns on Mumbai Indians bowling spearhead Jasprit Bunrah’s form in IPL 2022. Bumrah is regarded as one of the lethal bowlers in modern-day cricket due to his skills of bowling yorkers and bouncers to torment the batters.

But there is a different side of Bumrah in IPL 2022 as the ace Indian bowler has managed to pick just five wickets in 10 matches at an economy rate of 7.93.

Batters don’t want to give Jasprit Bumrah wickets: Ravi Shastri

In MI’s clash against Gujarat Titans, Bumrah was taken to cleaners by Wriddhiman Saha in the powerplay overs. The pace bowler conceded 48 runs from overs and failed to pick any wicket.

Shastri, who was the head coach of the Indian team for a period of four years, said batters have changed their approach of playing Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah’s form is not a concern at all. It’s just that oppositions have played him differently. They don’t want to give him wickets. If the team’s situation is good then the opposition will take the chance against it. So Bumrah is stuck because of this, there’s no issue of ability whatsoever,” Shastri told ESPNCricinfo.

Tim David could be the future for Mumbai Indians: Ravi Shastri

Senior Mumbai Indians player Kieron Pollard is going through the worst season in the Indian Premier League since joining the franchise in 2010.

The former West Indies captain amassed 129 runs in 10 innings, striking at 109.32 with the best score of 25 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

On the other hand, Tim David hit 21-ball 44 including two boundaries and four sixes, to propel MI to 177/6 in the first innings against the Titans.

In the middle of IPL 2022, Pollard announced retirement from international cricket after playing for almost 15 years in the West Indies colours.

Shastri opined that David would succeed Pollard as a finisher down the line in the cash-rich league.

“I believe they were searching for the right balance (when they dropped him after two matches) and Pollard was already there. Now, mid-tournament, he has announced his retirement from international cricket so Tim David could be the future,” Shastri said.

“What he needed was confidence that ‘I belong to this stage. I can be a finisher in the IPL for Mumbai Indians and can hit sixes.’ The sixes he hit in the last two matches would have taken his confidence up. I feel Mumbai will use him this way only – as a finisher towards the end of the innings,” he added.
