Rohit Sharma’s lack of form has been one of the key reasons behind Mumbai Indias’ winless campaign in IPL 2022 so far. They have played four games and lost all four. They fave Punjab Kings in their next game on April 13 and need to get back to winning ways. Mumbai Indians is the only team now in the IPL that remains winless after CSK registered their maiden win of the season against RCB on Tuesday. So far this season, Rohit Sharma has scored 80 runs from four matches.

Previewing the MI vs PBKS game to be played in Pune, Aakash Chopra said that Rohit Sharma needs to have a 500-plus run season to get Mumbai back on track in this IPL. He has only scored once over 500 runs in the IPL in 2013 (538 Runs). Since the last few seasons. Rohit’s bat has remained silent in the IPL. He scored just 286 in 2018, 332 in 2020, and 381 in 2021. In 2019, he scored over 405.

Its Been 8 to 10 Years Since Rohit Sharma Scored 500 Plus In An IPL Season: Aakash Chopra

“It has been eight to ten years since Rohit scored over 500 runs in an IPL season. So, Rohit Sharma needs to have a 500 run plus IPL season if this team needs to turn a corner and get on a winning run. Ishan Kishan’s strike rate is taking a dive since the first game, perhaps he is taking too much pressure” said Chopra.

He further said that Suryakumar Yadav needs to bat at number three in the batting order. Since his comeback, Surya has scored back to back fifties against KKR and RCB.

“Suryakumar has to come at No.3, not Dewald Brewis. The best batter of the team needs to get time, he will make the most of it. Then Tilak Varma and Brewis.” said the former Indian opener.

Aakash Chopra concluded by saying that Mumbai Indians as a side have plenty of problems. He criticised their strategy to play with only two overseas players in the last game against KKR. Their loss against KKR made them drop their overseas players with only Kieron Pollard being the only constant overseas player in the XI.

“Mumbai Indians are looking pretty ordinary at the moment. Their auction strategy looks flawed. They are playing with two overseas players, the bowling attack is almost negligible. Everyone are thinking what are they trying to achieve. They have a lot of problems, but not a lot of answers” concluded Chopra.
