Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are two of the most successful teams in IPL history, however, this season has been nothing but a nightmare for the two teams. MI is yet to get going on the points table, on the other hand, CSK has managed only a solitary win from 6 games so far. Both teams are in desperate need of a win.

CSK is coming off a three-wicket defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in a closely contested battle. Batting first, CSK posted 169/5 on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 73 off 48 and a 31-ball 46 by Ambati Rayudu. CSK had reduced the Hardik Pandya-less side to 48/4 in eight overs. However, they did not have answers to David Miller’s (94* off 51) and Rashid Khan’s (40 off 21) onslaught as they lost the game on the penultimate ball.

CSK is desperately missing the services of their most expensive buy of this season pacer Deepak Chahar. Deepak Chahar won’t be available for the entire IPL 2022 season due to a back injury and this news has dented CSK’s bowling attack for good. Ravindra Jadeja-led CSK needs to find a perfect combination in the bowling unit if they want to go deep in the tournament.

Mitchell Santner

England spin all-rounder Moeen Ali’s form is a big concern. Moeen Ali has been ineffective throughout the season. CSK spent 8 Crores in retaining the English all-rounder, but Moeen Ali is yet to reap dividends. Mitchell Santner is another spin bowling all-rounder in the ranks and a lackluster form of Moeen Ali might tempt the team management to go for Mitchell Santner.

England pacer Chris Jordan went for plenty in the last game. He was the main culprit in CSK’s defeat against GT in the last game. If Adam Milne is fit to feature, the Kiwi express pacer might replace the Englishman in the playing eleven. Otherwise, Proteas pacer Dwaine Pretorius, who didn’t do anything wrong to face the ax from the eleven for Chris Jordan might replace the latter.

He returned to form against Gujarat, scoring 73 runs after another disappointing start to his IPL 2022 campaign. He has amassed only 108 runs averaging a mere 18 but his return to form will increase CSK fans’ hopes.

MS Dhoni has struggled with the bat, scoring a combined total of 314 runs from 30 matches in the last two editions-IPL 2020 and IPL 2021. If his tally of 200 runs in IPL 2020 was disappointing, the following year was even worse as MS Dhoni aggregated only 114 runs.

Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo broke Lasith Malinga’s record for most wickets in the history of IPL after picking a solitary scalp against Lucknow. He had valiant figures of 3/20 in CSK’s season-opening loss to KKR in Mumbai. He is CSK’s leading wicket-taker this season so far with 10 scalps in 6 games averaging 18.1.

Mahesh Theekshana
