MI vs PBKS: Punjab Kings' Predicted Playing XI Against Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings, PBKS Playing 11 vs MI (Predicted), IPL 2022, Match 23, MI vs PBKS. Mumbai Indians will be desperate for a win when they take on Punjab Kings in match 23 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday (April 13) at 7:30 pm.

Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians have had the worst start to their campaign as they have lost 4 of 4 matches so far, while Mayank Agarwal’s PBKS, who started the season on a strong note, has won 2 and lost 2 in their 4 matches.

MI came into the season with a completely different-looking bowling lineup except for Jasprit Bumrah and the record champions’ struggles are clear to see from their opening game loss to Delhi Capitals. They followed in similar form with successive defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and most recently against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Versus RCB, MI opted for just 2 overseas players. It will be interesting to see if they use the fill-up quota in the upcoming games.

PBKS, meanwhile, opened their season with a huge run chase win against RCB and then followed with a defeat to KKR, failing to defend a below-par score. However, they bounced back with the defense of a challenging total against Chennai Super Kings. But their morale will be down after they failed to defend a score against Gujarat Titans despite being on top right until the final over of the match.

Punjab Kings would be gutted after their terrible below-par bowling performance against Gujarat Titans in the previous game of IPL 2022. They lost the game from nowhere mainly due to their overseas pace duo of Kagiso Ragada and Odean Smith. Odean Smith couldn’t defend 12 runs off 2 balls. Their batting looks alright at the moment but it is their bowling that is pathetic.

Punjab Kings have all their overseas players available against out of form MI who lost all 4 games. There are high chances that they may consider bringing in Benny Howell for Odean Smith who is an experienced T20 veteran from Hampshire.

With the firepower of another England keeper Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order, they can certainly go for Benny Howell, who may not be a fierce six-hitter like Odean Smith but provides much better control than West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith with the ball.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan had a sedate start to his IPL 2022 season as he scored 43 off 29 balls against RCB but scored only 16 against KKR. He has scored 92 runs so far. He comes to a franchise after having scored almost 1200 runs for Delhi across four seasons.

Punjab Kings bought him for Rs. 8.25 crores during the auction. Last year, Shikhar Dhawan gave a magnificent batting show playing for Delhi Capitals. He scored 587 runs in 16 games in IPL 2021. He is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the IPL. He has scored 127 runs in 4 IPL 2022 games.

Mayank Agarwal

Appointed as captain of the side, Mayank Agarwal has a lot of experienced players to bank upon. He scored a good-looking 32 in his first match as captain against RCB but was dismissed in the very 1st over against KKR after scoring 1 run off 5 balls. He is yet to fire managing only 42 runs in 4 games averaging a mere 10.5.

Mayank Agarwal gave a good batting show last season. He scored 441 runs in 12 games at an average of 40.09. He had an eventful 2020 season where he scored a spectacular ton against the Rajasthan Royals amassing 424 runs in 11 games. He increased his run tally to 441 runs in the following season and PBKS will want their skipper to continue this trend and score big in the next games.

Jonny Bairstow

In his short IPL career, Jonny Bairstow has notched up as many as 7 fifties and 1 hundred in the IPL.  Tenacious England wicketkeeper-batsman was a new entrant to the IPL who was bought for Rs. 1.5 crore by the SRH team management for the 2019 season.

Jonny Bairstow, a member of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning squad, is one of the cleanest strikers of the ball and can win the matches for his team on his own. Punjab Kings brought him on board for INR 6.75 Crore and Jonny Bairstow, like he has done a number of times, will be out to take the opposition by storm while playing for PBKS. He has scored only 8 runs in 2 games playing 1 inning.

Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone should be the middle-order batsman for the team. Last season, he opted out of the tournament due to bubble issues. He has scored 98 runs including a 60 against CSK in a winning cause in an IPL 2022 match besides taking  2 scalps in the same match.

While his IPL stint was with Rajasthan Royals in 2019, he was one of the biggest Punjab Kings signings – INR 11.50 Cr – during the TATA IPL 2022 auction. He has scored 162 runs in 4 games averaging an impressive 40.5 in IPL 2022 so far.

Shahrukh Khan

The Kings splurged 9 crores to rebuy Shahrukh Khan after a promising IPL 2021 season. He made an impact in the very first game scoring an unbeaten 24 and taking his team to a win alongside Odean Smith. He is the assigned finisher in the PBKS lineup alongside Odean Smith.

Last season, he scored 153 runs in 11 matches at an average of 21.86. He scored an unbeaten 24 off 20 balls in Punjab Kings’ win against Bangalore but failed to open his account against Kolkata. He scored only 6 against CSK too. He has scored 45 runs so far in IPL 2022.

Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan has led from the front for Himachal Pradesh. The all-rounder was his team’s leading run-getter and wicket-taker during their triumphant Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign earlier this year and had an impressive Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season with the ball. An experienced campaigner, Rishi Dhawan, will be out to set the stage on fire for Punjab Kings in the TATA IPL 2022. His last IPL match came in 2016.

PBKS bought the all-rounder Benny Howell from England for INR 40 Lac. Benny Howell, who is known to have a deceptive slower delivery in his arsenal and is handy with the bat, has so far played 157 T20s and 2122 runs and 163 wickets against his name.

He has plenty of variations under his sleeves and is one of the pioneers when it comes to bowling off cutters, leg cutters, and knuckleballs in T20s. He is also a decent hitter lower down the order.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer was one of the only two players retained by Punjab Kings. Arshdeep Singh had a memorable IPL 2021 taking a bagful of wickets and the franchise certainly sees him as a future prospect. It is this season that he has to repay the faith the franchise has placed in him.

Last season, he picked 18 wickets in 12 games for the team at an impressive average of 19.0. He has picked 2 scalps in 4 IPL 2022 games.

Kagiso Rabada

With his experience and pace strength, Kagiso Rabada will be a crucial bowler for the team in IPL 2022. Last season, he was part of the Delhi Capitals and scalped 15 wickets in 15 games. Punjab Kings bought him for Rs. 9.25 crores during the auction.

IPL 2020’s leading wicket-taker (purple cap winner) has picked 77 scalps in only 51 games averaging 20.56. He didn’t play the first game of being in quarantine. He scored 26 runs and had bowling figures of 1/23 in the 2nd match against KKR. Against CSK, he also picked up 1 wicket. He had picked 4 scalps so far in IPL 2022 playing 3 games.

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar was picked by Punjab Kings for Rs. 5.25 crores during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Playing for Mumbai Indians last season, the right-arm spinner scalped 13 wickets in 11 games. Overall, he has picked up 49 scalps in 45 IPL appearances averaging 24.02. In IPL 2022, he has picked 7 scalps in 4 games and is Punjab’s leading wicket-taker.

While Kolkata Knight Riders picked him during the 2021 IPL auction, he will now don the PBKS jersey in IPL 2022 and look to put on some impressive performances for the side. He played his first game against CSK in their last game and returned with figures of 2/21. He has picked 2 scalps in as many IPL 2022 games.
