Former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha has criticized Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant for his batting performance in the 64th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, where Delhi Capitals won by 17 runs to inch closer to the IPL 2022 playoffs berth.

Rishabh Pant came out to bat after Lalit Yadav’s dismissal, who got out for 24 in the 11th over, and he got off the mark with a single and while facing his second ball he smashed his amazing trademark one-handed six to spinner Liam Livingstone.

Pant, while facing his third delivery, once again tried to hit a six as he went dancing down the track to smash the ball but he completely missed his shot and got stumped as PBKS wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma did not mistake in dismissing the Delhi Capitals captain. Also, young wicketkeeper-batsman Pant’s innings ended at 7 runs off 3 balls.

During a discussion on Cricbuzz, the former India spinner said that Pant is an established batter and is looked at as a future leader of the India National Cricket Team.

He added that only smashing 4 sixes off 4 balls does not make a player a match-winner as the responsibility of a match-winner is to build his innings and take responsibility. Ojha also said that Pant missed a golden opportunity by not being able to play a big knock.

“He is an established batter. He is being looked at as an option for future (India) captaincy, someone who can be a match-winner for the Indian team for a long time. Who is match-winner? Hitting 4 sixes off 4 balls is not being a match-winner.

“Match-winner can build an innings, takes responsibility too. So Pant let off a golden opportunity. Livingston was brought into the attack only to get Pant out. PBKS didn’t care even if he had gone for six sixes,” Ojha told Cricbuzz.
