Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has criticised Odean Smith for the over that he bowled against Gujarat Titans on Friday night at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. Gujarat Titans needed 19 off 6balls and Rahul Tewatia finished the game off with two back to back sixes in the last two balls of the over.

Odean Smith was called upon to bowl the final over by Punjab King’s skipper Mayank Agarwal and he was under the pump right from the start. However, the highlight of his over was when he conceded and overthrow which brought Tewatia to the strike and he finished it with back to back sixes.

Baffled Not To See A Yorker From Odean Smith: Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer who was previously the batting coach of Punjab Kings in the past few seasons took to Twitter to express his disappointment on how Smith went through his over. He said that not bowling yorkers was a mistake by Smith who went wide off the stumps with all his deliveries in the final over.

“Crucial overthrow from Odean on 4th ball, gave extra run & brought Tewatia on strike. Baffled not to see a single Yorker in 20th over by Odean. Well done to @gujarat_titans, Super knock from@ShubmanGill and @rahultewatia02 just ice cool under pressure #PBKSvGT #IPL2022,” Jaffer tweeted.

Since his first game, Smith has had a torrid time in the IPL. He has not scored too many runs and he was expensive with the ball as well. The Kings roped him in for 6 crores in the mega auction ahead of the new IPL season.

Meanwhile, after the game, Tewtia spoke about his feelings about the game. This is the second game that he helped the Titans win with his bat. They are the only unbeaten team in this season so far courtesy of Tewtia’s brilliance.

“It feels good when the game is won. There wasn’t a lot to think in the final over, we just had to hit sixes and that’s what me and David (Miller) were talking about.

“I knew (on the last-ball six) that it had gone off the middle of the bat, so it would clear the fence. I did premeditate, felt he (Odean) bowl wide outside off to me, premeditated and it executed well for me,” said Tewatia.
