The 42nd game between the Punjab Kings and Lucknow Supergiants would be an important one for both teams. The Punjab Kings come here having defeated the Chennai Super Kings while the Lucknow Supergiants also won their last game against the Mumbai Indians by a big margin.

KL Rahul’s side delivered a crushing blow to the Mumbai Indians in their last game and has almost knocked the 5-time IPL champions out of the contention for a berth in the playoffs. Their bowlers aggressively defended the average score of 168 runs to win the game by 36 runs. They are placed 4th on the points table and tied on the same points as three other sides. KL Rahul would like his side to get a move on with a win against Punjab.

Lucknow skipper KL Rahul hit a splendid hundred in the last game against MI and together with Quinton de Kock forms a strong opening wicket pair. Manish Pandey needs to score at a better strike rate as he hasn’t had a great season. He must add runs with Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya in the middle order. They have good depth in the batting with Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, and Jason Holder to follow.

Dushmantha Chameera bowled magnificently in the last game and look to bowl tight spells at the start of the game with Jason Holder. Avesh Khan is likely to make a comeback into the side after sitting out against the Mumbai Indians due to an injury. He adds strength to this attack along with Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, and Ayush Badoni. Manish Pandey is the only weak link in the otherwise excellent batting unit and might get replaced by someone like Manan Vohra.

KL Rahul has been Mr. Consistent of IPL in the last couple of seasons, scoring over 500 runs in each of the last four editions. LSG would want their skipper back in the 2018 form though, the season where he had scored 659 runs at 54.91 at a strike rate of 158.41.

The right-handed batsman was picked as a draft player by the team. Last season, he was part of Punjab Kings. He scored 626 runs in 13 IPL 2021 games. He has amassed 368 runs in 8 IPL 2022 games averaging 61.33 including successive tons against Mumbai.

Quinton de Kock

Roped in for INR 6.75 crore, the South African international Quinton de Kock has been one of the most prolific overseas batting options in recent times in IPL. Last season, the left-handed batsman was part of Mumbai Indians. He scored 297 runs in 11 games at an average of 29.70.

In IPL 2022, he is Lucknow Supergiants’ second-highest run-scorer after KL Rahul with 225 runs averaging 28.13 with 2 fifties in 8 games.

Deepak Hooda

In the last three seasons, Deepak Hooda has evolved as a key middle-order batter, scoring 444 runs at a strike rate of almost 140. He also offers control in the middle overs with the ball. Deepak Hooda has amassed 193 runs averaging 24.13 in 8 games including 2 fifties in IPL 2022 and is Lucknow Supergiants’ 3rd highest run-getter so far this season. He has also taken a solitary scalp.

Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis had scored an unbeaten 38 in the first IPL 2022 match he played against Rajasthan, albeit in a losing cause as RR won by 3 runs after their pacer Kuldeep Sen successfully defended 15 runs in the last over. He had scored 72 runs in 4 innings in IPL 2022 averaging 24 besides taking a solitary scalp bowling 3 overs (1/13) averaging 27.

The Australian all-rounder made his way to Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2020 after he was bought for Rs 4.8 crores during the auction and went on to play two seasons for the franchise. He will now be donning the Lucknow Supergiants colors after the franchise picked him ahead of the TATA IPL 2022 auction.

The 32-year-old Manish Pandey had aggregated a meager 22 runs in his first three innings of the tournament thus far. He did well against Mumbai scoring 38 but failed to live up to expectations in the other matches. He has scored 88 runs in 6 innings in IPL 2022 averaging only 14.67.

Although he has managed a strike rate below 130 in the last three IPL seasons, Lucknow is likely to slot him at No.3/No. 4 with the idea that he would play the anchor role when one of the two openers falls early in the game. He may be replaced by Manan Vohra or Krishnappa Gowtham.

Ayush Badoni

Lucknow Super Giants’ all-rounder Ayush Badoni, 22, became the first player to notch up a 50-plus score on IPL debut while batting at the No.6 spot or below in the match against Gujarat Titans, albeit in a losing cause. Ayush Badoni set alight the stage with his aggressive batting, hitting three sixes and four fours, and scoring 54 off 41 balls. He teamed up with Deepak Hooda, who scored 55 off 44 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

Ayush Badoni reached his maiden IPL half-century off 38 balls as Lucknow mustered a fighting 156-run total from being 25 for three. He has scored 134 runs in 7 innings playing 8 IPL 2022 games so far averaging 26.8.

Krunal Pandya

Lucknow will want Krunal Pandya to play the same role he used to play for Mumbai Indians all these years. Krunal Pandya, the spinner who can contribute with the bat as well was picked for Rs. 8.25 crores by Lucknow Supergiants during the IPL 2022 auction.

He was part of Mumbai Indians in the last season. He had scored 143 runs in 12 games and picked 5 wickets. He has taken 7 scalps averaging 22.28 in 8 matches in IPL 2022 besides scoring 112 runs averaging 28.

Jason Holder

Jason Holder, the former West Indies skipper who can bowl at any stage of the game and use the long handle to change the course of the match, is a solid addition to the Lucknow Supergiants squad. Jason Holder has picked 9 scalps in 6 IPL 2022 games averaging 23.22 and is Lucknow’s 2nd highest wicket-taker this season so far.

Dushmantha Chameera

Dushmantha Chameera, the Sri Lankan pacer can generate raw pace and trouble the batters with a fine yorker, and LSG, who have brought him on board for INR 2 Crore, will want him to set the stage on fire. He has picked 5 scalps so far in 6 IPL 2022 games averaging 37.2 with the ball.

Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi was one of the draft picks for Lucknow Supergiants. At 21 years of age, Ravi Bishnoi has been an exciting prospect in IPL and his impressive show in the last two seasons has handed him an opportunity in the Indian squad as well. He picked 6 scalps in 8 games in IPL 2022 averaging 41.16 at an economy rate of 7.96.

He is one of the key players in the Lucknow set-up. The young pacer was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for 10 crores at auction, up from a base price of 20 lakh, becoming the most expensive uncapped player at the event.

The Madhya Pradesh player was the second in the list of top wicket-takers last season, picking 24 wickets in 16 games at 18.75. He picked 11 scalps in 7 games averaging 20.09 but has been a tad too expensive (8.28). He is the leading Lucknow wicket-taker this season. He didn’t play the last game against CSK due to an injury and was replaced by Mohsin Khan who has picked a scalp playing 2 games.
