The third match of the IPL 2022 sees Royal Challengers Bangalore lock horns with Punjab Kings at D.Y Patil Sports Academy on 27th March 2022, Sunday. Royal Challengers Bangalore will be playing under a new captain this year.
Faf du Plessis will be leading the team in IPL 2022. Virat Kohli, who stepped down from captaincy last year, will remain an integral part of the team, however. Besides these two, RCB will be banking on Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, and Mahipal Lomror in the batting department.
AB de Villiers is no longer part of the team and his shoes will be hard to fill. Yuzvendra Chahal, too, is no longer a part of the team. In his absence, Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the spin department. Shahbaz Ahmed is the second spin bowling option that RCB are likely to go with.
RCB’s pace department is one of the best this season. Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj are present in the side. Besides, they have managed to acquire the services of Josh Hazlewood, Jason Beherendorff, and Siddarth Kaul.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings too are looking pretty solid on paper. KL Rahul is no longer part of the side but their top-order looks threatening. Mayank Agarwal will lead the team. He is likely to open the batting alongside Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow.
The middle-order is equally potent as they have managed to bring power hitters like Liam Livingstone and Odean Smith. The kind of batting unit they have, Punjab certainly have the ability to notch huge totals consistently.
In Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh, Punjab Kings have assured themselves of great variety in the pace attack. As far as the spin goes, the presence of Rahul Chahal and Harpreet Brar should serve the team well.
