Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell wants Mumbai Indians to defeat Delhi Capitals and help them qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.

Former RCB captain Virat Kohli played a belligerent 54-ball 73 to guide his side in an eight-wicket thumping win over table-toppers Gujarat Titans on Thursday.

Kohli came against all the odds and stepped up for his team when it mattered the most. He lifted, drove the incredible cover drives, whipped, played the straight drive, and slapped in the flurry of his spectacular strokes that kept RCB alive in the tournament.

He smashed Rashid Khan for a six to bring up his 44th IPL fifty and second of this season. Kohli cheered up the crowd and gave a big statement that he was not done yet.

Kohli and RCB captain Faf du Plessis stitched a 115-run stand to set the tone for the chase of 169. The duo was separated after the latter’s dismissal to Rashid in the 15th over.

After surviving a close dismissal off Rashid’s bowling on the first ball, Maxwell went ballistic, scoring 40 runs in 18 deliveries with five boundaries and two sixes.

RCB completed the chase with eight balls to spare and moved up to fourth place in the table with 16 points. RCB’s fate hangs in the clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.

DC is the only contender left in the tournament who can outwit RCB in the IPL 2022 playoffs race.

If Rohit Sharma and his men defeat the Capitals in their final league stage then RCB will cruise in the playoffs. Maxwell is confident that MI will help them make it through the knockout stage.

We’ll probably be watching the Mumbai – Delhi game pretty closely. I wouldn’t mind a round of golf tomorrow. There will be a bit of rehab going on. But I think the guys will stay really focused. The amount of hard work and effort that has gone into this team this year,” Maxwell told official broadcasters after their win over GT on Thursday.

“We feel like we deserve to be in the final four and hopefully, Mumbai will do the right thing by us and get us into the final four,” Maxwell added.

MI will take on the Rishabh Pant-led side on Saturday (May 21) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
