SRH vs CSK: Faf du Plessis Would Be Jealous A Little Bit – Ruturaj Gaikwad Pokes Fun At His Former Opening Partner After 182-Run Stand With Devon Conway

Star Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad took a dig at his former CSK opening partner Faf du Plessis after his record 182 runs partnership with Kiwi Devon Conway during the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday, May 1.

Gaikwad and Conway had a sensational 182 runs partnership off 107 balls in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad before T Natarajan broke the gigantic partnership between Chennai Super Kings openers by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Gaikwad was very unfortunate as he fell just 1 run short of a well-deserved century as he scored 99 runs off 57 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes. Conway, on the other hand, remained unbeaten and smashed 85 runs off 55 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Notably, the 182 runs partnership between Gaikwad and Conway is the highest partnership for Chennai in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they overtook Shane Watson-Faf du Plessis’ record of 181 runs partnership, which they registered during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 against Punjab Kings.

Meanwhile, the CSK opener Gaikwad poked fun at his former opening partner Faf du Plessis, who was appointed as Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper ahead of the IPL 2022. Gaikwad said that Du Plessis would be jealous looking at him having a record partnership with Conway.

“I think Faf would be jealous a little bit. But it’s okay. It feels really nice to have the record,” Ruturaj told CSK TV after his team’s 13-run win.

Faf and Gaikwad scored 633 and 635 runs in the Indian Premier League 2021 and they played a key role in CSK’s 4th title win in the tournament.

The 25-year-old Gaikwad also said that he was happy to see Conway perform well in the Indian Premier League and lauded him for showing great courage in the match.

“In powerplay, we didn’t start off well but I kept telling him that we are in and after that, it’s going to be pretty much easy for us to get going. I reminded him the wicket is slightly tough and we both carry on as long as we want,” said Ruturaj about his partnership with Conway.

“He also showed great courage to take on the bowlers. Very happy for him because he was eager to perform for this lovely franchise.”

Gaikwad further added that his parents had come to watch his game live and he was thankful to them for their constant support.

“It’s really special. I can’t put it in words. They don’t come and see my matches. But I wanted to come and experience the atmosphere, experience the CSK thing. Obviously, they don’t come with any expectation of me scoring.

“I know it might be playing in their minds, but I am really thankful to god and thankful to them for supporting me. I hope I have made them proud. Thankfully, I gave my best,” he said.
