IPL 2022: Suresh Raina Not Even In Consideration For Gujarat Titans Spot - Reports

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was not retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and they didn’t show any interest in buying him at the auction either.

Known as ‘Mr.IPL’, Raina was expected to be picked up by a franchise at least for his base price. However, that wasn’t the case and he ended up going unsold. Recently, fresh rumours started making the rounds that Raina was going to be picked up by the new franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT).

They lost England opener, Jason Roy, who said the bubble fatigue has taken a toll on his mental health. He also confirmed that he will be on an indefinite break from cricket, the second English player to do so after Ben Stokes.

As Roy’s replacement, speculations were rife that Raina would be the ideal candidate for GT. However, those rumours have been quashed by sources close to the GT franchise.

“No, Suresh Raina is not joining Gujarat Titans. He is not even in consideration for spot,” sources close to the development told timesnownews.com.

It all but ends the association of Raina with the IPL, at least for the time being. For now, he is the 4th highest run-scorer in the history of the league. Raina has accumulated 5,528 runs, only behind Virat Kohli (6,283), Rohit Sharma (5,784), and Shikhar Dhawan (5,611).

Hardik Pandya has been chosen as the leader of the GT squad. He was signed by the franchise for INR 15 crores ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Additionally, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill were also added prior to the auction.
