Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Virat Kohli can continue to captain Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for at least another year since he is very capable of doing so.

Additionally, he has no workload management issues anymore since he has given up captaincy of India in all 3 formats. Chopra compared the relationship between Kohli and RCB to that of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, MS Dhoni, and his franchise.

Why not Virat Kohli? When he left RCB’s captaincy, he left India’s T20 captaincy but was still the ODI and Test captain of India, but that did not happen. He was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain and then stepped down as captain from Test cricket.”

The situation is not the same anymore. Virat Kohli and RCB is like CSK and MS Dhoni, so why not one more year. Their performances in the recent past have been good as well, they made it to the playoffs in the last 2 editions,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“There won’t be too much workload” – Aakash Chopra

Unlike previous years where Kohli only had AB de Villiers by his side for leadership advice, this season will be different as there are a few more players who have experience. RCB bought South African batter, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik, both of whom could help him out.

Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik, Glenn Maxwell, or maybe even Virat Kohli. They can request him to captain once again because he is not captaining anywhere else. There won’t be too much workload. So, who will be RCB’s captain, that’s the million-dollar question,” he further mentioned.

RCB will be looking to get their hands on their first IPL trophy this season. They made it to the playoffs stage in the last two years but were pushed out in the Eliminator. This time around, they will be keen to go a couple of steps further.
