I Am Different From Rahul Dravid And MS Dhoni; I Try To Be As Natural As I Am: Sanju Samson

The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, after being appointed as captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), had said that he is different from Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni.

Under the captaincy of Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals performed brilliantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they reached the final for the first time in 14 years.

However, Rajasthan Royals failed to win the trophy as they lost against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the summit clash by 7 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Also, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson earned praise from several cricket pundits for his performance as a captain in the cash-rich league.

Talking about his performance as a batter, he scored 458 runs in 17 games at an average of 28.62 and a strike rate of 146.79, including two half-centuries.

I try to be as natural as I am – Sanju Samson

Last year in an interview with Malayalam film director Basil Joseph, Sanju Samson said that he likes the captaincy of legendary players Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni but he doesn’t want to impersonate them. Samson also said that he is different from Dravid, Dhoni, or any other captain and he tries to be very natural.

“I am different from Dravid or Dhoni, or anyone else. So, I try to be as natural as I am. Primarily, I try to assess the mood of the team. Often, they are all pumped up and so needn’t tell them that you should try your best.

“It’s sometimes the stupidest thing you would tell, because everyone wants to perform to the best of their skills,” he had said after being appointed as the RR skipper in IPL 2022 according to a report in The Indian Express.

While talking about Dravid, Samson had said that the speeches given by the legendary Indian batter were profound and he was very caring and understanding.

“His speeches were profound. He often spoke of the higher purpose of life. His words had a hypnotic power to hold our attention for a long time.

“But as much as his speeches, he was so caring and understanding. He loved us, and thus inspired us to produce our best. That’s the atmosphere we are trying to create in Rajasthan,” he had said.
