Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad recently parted ways with head coach Trevor Bayliss, and Tom Moody was appointed as the new head coach of the team. Meanwhile, Moody has said that he is thrilled with the new support staff of the franchise.
On Thursday Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) revealed their new coaching staff and the West Indies batting legend Brian Lara joined the franchise as a batting coach and strategic advisor. The legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn has been roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad as a fast-bowling coach.
Also, Former Indian cricketer, Hemang Badani has been given a dual role of a fielding coach and a scout in the team. Meanwhile, the former Australian batter Simon Katich who was the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise has been appointed as an assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been retained by the franchise and he will be the strategy and spin bowling coach.

In a video shared by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Twitter, the newly-appointed head coach Tom Moody was talking about the new support staff. He lauded the assistant coach Simon Katich and said:
” You may have recently heard the announcement of the new support staff. I am thrilled to be back as head coach and I am thrilled to be working with these men, first Simon Katich as our assisting coach, Simon comes in with a vast amount of experience in coaching in IPL having worked with two franchises and having worked in franchise cricket outside the IPL. So there is all lot of experience to the group which is welcomed.”
Tom Moody expressed his excitement to work alongside the legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara and said:
“We have also recruited the West Indies legendary batsman Brian Lara, Brian takes up a strategic advisory role but also he will be our batting coach. Very excited to be working with Brian he comes with a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the game and his experience is going to be a real asset to us.”
Moody talked about pace bowling coach Dale Steyn and opined that his experience of playing in the Indian Premier League will benefit the team. He elaborated:
” And now the new member the great fast bowler from South Africa Dale Steyn is coming back to the Sunrisers as a former fast bowler at the Sunrisers, he is coming as our bowling coach, he will be working with our pace bowlers and I am sure they’ll welcome every second they get with Dale with his vast experience and current experience in the game. He’s got the great understanding of the fast bowling but also he has got the great understanding of the opposition having played just recently.”
Moody further talked about fielding coach and scout Hemang Badani and mentioned that he will play a crucial role in the franchise for the auction preparations. He asserted:
“And finally our fielding coach and scout Hemang Badani, someone who comes in with a huge amount of experience as a head coach and a batting coach but also fielding coach, his role will be centred around the fielding side of things but also the head scouting role which is crucial for the preparation of the auction. We know his experience in the domestic experience having worked there as a coach and it will be invaluable for our preparations.”
” I am thrilled with the support staff and I think we have got a very strong team that will be helping develop the players and bring some sustained success for the franchise over a long period of time,” he added.
