“I Made A Mistake” – Harbhajan Singh On Infamous IPL 2008 Slapgate Controversy Involving S Sreesanth

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh opened up on the infamous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008 slap gate controversy involving him and S Sreesanth and admitted that he made a huge mistake.

In the Indian Premier League 2008, which was the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league, Harbhajan Singh, who was then the skipper of Mumbai Indians had slapped Indian pacer S Sreesanth, who was then part of the Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings).

The Indian pacer Sreesanth was crying after the incident and he was caught by the TV cameras before the presentation ceremony. The IPL 2008 slapgate controversy remains one of the biggest controversies in the history of the Indian Premier League.

While talking about the slapgate controversy, Harbhajan said that the thing that happened in IPL 2008 was wrong and he made a big mistake. He further added that he regrets slapping Sreesanth.

“What happened was wrong. I made a mistake. Because of me, my teammate had to face embarrassment. I was embarrassed,” Harbhajan said at Glance LIVE Fest.

“If I had to correct one mistake, it was how I treated Sreesanth on the field. It should not have had happened. When I think about it, I feel there was no need.”

Notably, the off-spin bowler was handed over a ban by the governing body after he was found guilty. Harbhajan was banned for the remaining matches of the tournament and he was also prohibited from collecting his salary.

Along with the ban in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the off-spinner was banned for five One Day International (ODI) games after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched a separate investigation and found him guilty.
