It’s a matter of disappointment that somebody with a huge calibre of Andre Fletcher hasn’t played a single IPL game. He has gone unsold auction after auction but might get a bid in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction.
Andre Fletcher has been in thunderous form since cricket resumed in the pandemic era. He made a superb return to the West Indies’ T20 side after 2 years against New Zealand striking in the 3-match series at 187.10. Post that, the right-hander has been bludgeoning everything; 206 runs in the BBL for Melbourne Stars at a strike rate of 130 and 146 runs at a strike rate of 194 in 4 innings in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for Bangla Tiger.
Andre Fletcher also doubles up as a wicket-keeper.
IPL 2021 Auction: 3 Teams Which Can Target Andre Fletcher
Kolkata Knight Riders
The likes of Nikhil Naik, Tom Banton, Rahul Tripathi were tried after Kolkata Knight Riders released Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine’s disappointed with the bat. Finally, they had to shift Nitish Rana from the middle-order.
Head coach, Brendon McCullum will look for some swashbuckling openers and could turn towards the West Indian Andre Fletcher. KKR had issues finding a perfect opening partner for Shubman Gill last season.
Andre Fletcher will complement Gill very well as while the Indian opener could take his time to set himself in, Fletcher, on the other hand, will score runs with alacrity.
Not only that, since the two-time champions have offloaded Tom Banton, they would also need a back-up keeper for Dinesh Karthik, and Andre Fletcher fits the bill nicely.
Chennai Super Kings
The three-time champions, Chennai Super Kings will go into the auction searching for a replacement for Shane Watson, who has retired. The MS Dhoni-led franchise has also jettisoned Murali Vijay. Hence, an attacking opener will be on their wishlist.
Andre Fletcher is in good form and can attract bids from CSK. While Fletcher may not be a big name in world cricket at the moment, if he finds a shed under MS Dhoni, he could well be in a couple of month’s time.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore are without the services of Parthiv Patel, who has retired and was a backup opener as he didn’t play a single game last season, and also Aaron Finch, who has been released after a disappointing campaign in the UAE. Devdutt Padikkal and Josh Philippe are expected to open for Virat Kohli’s side.
RCB will have an eye on Andre Fletcher as he a like-for-like replacement for Philippe. Fletcher’s fearlessness may impressive the skipper and RCB could give the West Indian a contract.
