The IPL 2021 auction is just two weeks away and franchises are busy working out and analyzing who they should pick in order to further strengthen their squad ahead of the 14th season.

One of the names that would certainly interest the franchises- especially those who have struggled with their opening combination in the past- is the West Indian swashbuckler Evin Lewis.

Lewis has represented the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 and 2019 seasons but he could not emulate his exploits of other leagues. He managed just 430 runs at an average of 26.88 and a strike-rate of 131.1 across two seasons and went unsold in the last auction.

That said, lewis remains one of the most fearsome hitters of a cricket ball, and he could still find a few bidders in the upcoming auction

Here’s a look at 3 teams that might go for Evin Lewis in IPL 2021 auction-

Kolkata Knight Riders

One of the issues that Kolkata Knight Riders grappled with during the 2020 IPL was the lack of potent opening partnerships.

While Shubman Gill featured regularly as one of the openers, the second slot was more or less a musical chair with Sunil Narine, Rahul Tripathi, and Nitish Rana filling in the spot at different times in the tournament.

And, while they might still continue with the aforementioned options alongside Shubman Gill, it would serve them if they go for a backup option in the form of West Indian swashbuckler Evin Lewis.

KKR have 2 overseas slots to fill in IPL 2021 auction and they have a remaining balance of Rs 10.75 Crores.

After having released the likes of Steve Smith, Tom Curran, Oshane Thomas, Rajasthan Royals have three overseas slots to fill in IPL 2021 auction.

Just like KKR, Rajasthan Royals tried numerous combinations at the top of the order. With Ben Stokes likely to open the innings, the Jaipur-based franchise can go for the likes of Evin Lewis to further bolster their opening combination.

If Lewis and Stokes find their elements, then their combination can prove to be devastating, which in turn will release a significant amount of pressure from the shoulders of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler.

Chennai Super Kings released as many six players from their IPL 2020 squad following a disastrous campaign that saw them bow out of the competition before the playoffs for the very first time in their history.

CSK have a settled opening pair in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis but they can still go for the services of Evin Lewis as a backup for the veteran South African batsman

That said, CSK has just one overseas slot to fill and so it will be interesting to see if they go for the services of the Windies swashbuckler.
