Piyush Chawla may not have had a memorable IPL 2020 outing but he remains a veteran of the cash-rich league. Chawla managed just six wickets in seven games at an average of 31.83 with a very high economy rate of 9.09.

Chawla was one of the six cricketers that were released by the  MS Dhoni-led franchise and he will once again be back on the IPL auction table, come February 18.

On that note, here’s a look at three teams that might go for Piyush Chawla in IPL 2021 Auction:

The defending champions boast of an imperious squad ahead of the IPL 2021 auction but they might still look to add further potency to it, especially in the spin-bowling department.

Mumbai Indians have the likes of Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, and rookie Anukul Roy in their spin-bowling reserves alongside left-arm orthodox in Krunal Pandya.

They might look to further bolster it by claiming the services of veteran leggie Piyush Chawla. Chawla may not have had a memorable 2020 IPL but he still remains one of the greatest spinners to have ever featured in the cash-rich league’s history.

Kings XI Punjab have a total of nine slots to fill in the IPL 2021 auction and to do that they have the highest purse (Rs 53.2 Crore) among all franchises.

KXIP have the likes of Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi in their squad as first-choice spinners but they might still look to bolster the department by adding the experience of Piyush Chawla.

Chawla has represented KXIP during the early years of IPL but he is a far better bowler than he was back then. His experience can come in handy for both Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi.

Another department apart from seam-bowling where Rajasthan Royals struggled last season was in spin-bowling.

While Rahul Tewatia was effective in controlling the flow of runs, he took just 10 wickets in 14 outings at 32.06.

However, it was Shreyas Gopal, who turned out to be a major disappointment. The leg-spinner could neither take wickets (10 in 14 games at 42.7) nor could he stem the flow of runs.

The Royals have a total of 8 slots to fill out of which three are of overseas cricketers. They have as many as Rs 34.85 crores to shell out. Hence, they can easily go for the services of Piyush Chawla as a backup option for Gopal, even though they still have rookie Mayank Markande in their ranks.
