The 14th season of the IPL is less than two months away but before that, a mini IPL 2021 auction will take place where each of the eight franchises will look to plug whatever gaps that exist in their squad.

Among a whole host of superstars which are likely to go under the hammer, one of them is Afghan sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The Afghan spinner did not get a single game in the 2020 edition and was subsequently released by the Kings XI Punjab ahead of the auction.

That said, Mujeeb still remains a force to reckon with, and one shouldn’t be surprised if a bidding war ensues among the franchises for his services.

Here’s a look at 3 teams who might possibly go for Mujeeb Ur Rahman in IPL 2021 auction:

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals suffered from the poor form of Shreyas Gopal in the last season.

The Karnataka leg-spinner managed a mere 10 wickets in 14 games at an average of 42.7 and an economy rate of 8.54.

With three overseas slots freeing up following the release of Steve Smith, Tom Curran, and Oshane Thomas, the Royals can go with a wicket-taking spin option in the form of Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman.

Mujeeb remains one of the great T20 spinners of the modern era, who can bowl in the powerplay equally well as he can in the middle-overs. He is also a handy lower-order batsman.

With Rs 34.85 Crores in the bank, Rajasthan Royals can surely take a punt on the Afghan spinner in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction.

Mumbai Indians released the likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Mitchell McClenaghan and while they would aim to bolster their squad with a potent third seam-bowling option, they might also look to add some potency to their spin-bowling stocks.

While Rahul Chahar did well in the last season, Krunal Pandya failed to make an impact with the ball. And, while they will still persist with Krunal due to his batting credentials, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to rack up the services of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and keep him as a backup option along with Jayant Yadav and Anukul Roy.

Mumbai Indians have four overseas slots to fill and they have a total amount of Rs 15.35 Crore to shell out in the IPL 2021 auction.

Kings XI Punjab released Mujeeb Ur Rahman ahead of the IPL 2021 auction.

But don’t be surprised if they repurchase at a lower price in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction. Mujeeb racked up Rs 4 Crore in the last season. However, he did not play a single game as KXIP played the liked of Glenn Maxwell, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Jordan, Chris Gayle and James Neesham ahead of him.

That said, Mujeeb still remains a force to reckon with, considering his ability to bowl equally well in both powerplay as well in the middle-overs.
