Delhi Capitals had a mixed IPL 2021 auction, making a few questionable decisions. The most debatable of the lot was Steve Smith’s inclusion. While Steve Smith’s buy was a steal deal for the Capitals, getting him for INR 2.2 crores (base price of INR 2 crores); however, they have plenty of top-order options.

Thus, the question arises of where do the Capitals fit the former Australian captain, who did not enjoy a good IPL 2020. Smith captained the Rajasthan Royals, which got eliminated in the 13th edition after the franchises finished eighth in the points table and the skipper himself struggled for form.

Thus, with Delhi having Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith – two like for like players, they might have to keep rotating them throughout the competition. The runners-up of IPL 2020 bolstered their fast-bowling unit by including Umesh Yadav, Lukman Meriwala, and Tom Curran.

Tom Curran’s roping in was justified, in particular, since the pair of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje might not be available for a few fixtures. All in all, the Delhi-based franchise earns a rating of 7 after the IPL 2021 auction and would have hoped that they picked the right blend of international and domestic players to end their title drought.
